Today we went out into the outback of Southern Oregon. Namely to the Shirk Ranch which is way, WAY out in the desert. Shortly after we made it past the ranch, we stopped underneath some juniper trees to eat lunch. Too bad it started raining. So we all headed back the 20 miles to the pickups, soaked to the skin and covered in an inch-thick shell of mud.

So here was a photo I took of myself after the trip. That jacket wasn't sagging when I put it on, and my helmet was crystal-clean.

Anywho, another day passed, and a few pounds of dirt acquired.

WITH 60% MORE INTERNET AND 40% MORE LUNG CANCER (You can blame that on my roommates). But yea, I decided to make a post finally. Not sure of Tursi or anyone else really pays attention anymore, but still, it'd be nice to hear from them again. :)

In the time that I've been... idle... I've moved several times, now living in Oregon, just 20 miles from California. We had plans to go to AC this year, but that feel through in a heartbeat. So I'm focusing on finishing off the last bits of my education (and trying to find more rubber bands to hold my computer together). But other than that, life is moving smoothly, and my lawn looks FREAKIN' AWESOME. I swear, it could pass for golf-course greem if it was cut short enough.
Well, time to go! Testing in the morning, and I can't miss that. :>

Adios!
From everyone's favorite (maybe) gryphon,
Sypress Calrizan a.k.a The Indecisive and Forgetful bastard.

I've been learning how to install and configure Linux packages from the command line and how to run an X11 client on a remote system. It's tedious, but worth it in my opinion.
The next goal is to get a working MySQL server installed on a spare box and run OpenAscent off of the supplied database, which means more digging for suitable distros.

By the way, visit irc.anthrochat.net if you want to find me, since Im rarely anywhere else.

P.S: My Linux can run Windows apps faster than Windows :D

Go figure.

Let see.... what have I achieved, ah yes, I have my old job back, greasing the same old grimy truck. I should have two new computers later on this week for my rendering systems (I seem to have figured out how to do fluid animations nicely).

For those of you who are gamers, NEVER BUY THE DAMN PCI CARD WHEN YOU HAVE AGP!!! OK, that's solved now *glances over at the 128MB PCI video card that can't seem to play TF2 at a decent FPS*

Now, what else... ah yes, I had to shutdown our website due to spam bots. Somehow they got past account validation. And Anthrochat and half of the fandom's network has died due to a datacenter failure on the 28th at midnight. Apparently the RAID controller faild and started writing data all over the disk.

So, other than that, it's been hectic around here.

Seems I've only posted junk, so I thought i'd post something worthy today.

We finally got moved into our new house completely and are currently working on replacing a large chunk of missing linoleum in the kitchen. Somewho it got tore out and nobody knows how. Managed to fix the bathroom fan lastnight. It'd barely turn because of the inch thick accumulation of dust on the little motor. So I added some WD-40 and called it good. And now my sleeping patterns are screwed again.. I stay up intil about 8AM, sleep until 4-5PM and wake up, Repeat. So it's been rather busy around here. Considering getting a job ferrying people back and forth across the golf-course (This would get me paid good considering all the wealthy people that come here). And other than than all that, life has been decent. Hope to heae from someone on that friends list of mine ;) *jabs it with a sharp stick*

I found this in the Seattle Post:

'Vista Capable' lawsuit against Microsoft now a class action

By JOSEPH TARTAKOFF AND TODD BISHOP
P-I REPORTERS

In a blow to Microsoft Corp., a federal judge granted class-action status to a lawsuit late Friday alleging that Microsoft unjustly enriched itself by promoting PCs as "Windows Vista Capable" even when they could only run a bare-bones version of the operating system, called "Vista Home Basic."

The slogan was emblazoned on PCs during the 2006 holiday shopping season as part of a campaign by Microsoft to maintain sales of Windows XP computers after the launch of Windows Vista was delayed.

At a hearing two weeks ago, lawyers for Microsoft argued that because each consumer who bought a computer touted as "Windows Vista Capable" had different information at the time of purchase, the lawsuit should not be granted class-action status, while plaintiffs' lawyers said that all individuals who bought "Windows Vista Capable" PCs were united in that "each person in our class did not get what they paid for."

In her ruling, Judge Marsha Pechman granted class-action status, stating that "common issues predominate."

"These common issues ... are whether Vista Home Basic, in truth, can fairly be called 'Vista' and whether Microsoft's 'Windows Vista Capable' marketing campaign inflated demand market-wide for 'Windows Vista Capable' PCs," she wrote.

At the same time, though, Pechman narrowed the basis on which plaintiffs could move forward with their claims.

For instance, she said that the plaintiffs could not pursue a class-action lawsuit on the basis that consumers had been deceived because "an individualized analysis is necessary to determine what role Microsoft's 'Windows Vista Capable' marketing program played in each class members' purchasing decision."

However, she said it was appropriate for plaintiffs to argue as a class that Microsoft had artificially inflated demand -- and prices -- for computers only capable of running Vista Home Basic by marketing them as "Windows Vista Capable."

Pechman also said that the two consumers currently named as plaintiffs in the case could not also represent buyers who participated in a related Microsoft program called "Express Upgrade," which gave consumers the right to free or low-priced upgrades to Windows Vista after it came out. She said "injury" to those consumers was "correlated to the amount spent on the cost of the upgrade program, not the allegedly inflated price of the 'Windows Vista Capable' PCs."

But she said that plaintiffs could amend their complaint to include a named plaintiff who participated in that program.

Microsoft spokesman Jack Evans said in a statement, "We are currently reviewing the court's ruling. We believe the facts will show that Microsoft offered different versions of Windows Vista, including Windows Vista Home Basic, to meet the varied needs of our customers purchasing computers at different price points."

Jeff Thomas, an attorney at Gordon Tilden Thomas & Cordell, which is representing the plaintiffs, said his law firm would now go ahead and gather documents and depositions.

"Up until now, all of the discovery was up to the class motion. Now that the class has been certified, we'll have to get into more of the depositions and documents regarding the case itself," he said.

During the hearing two weeks ago, Jeffrey Tilden, another plaintiff attorney, quoted extensively from internal Microsoft e-mails that appeared to show that employees within Microsoft had misgivings about the "Windows Vista Capable" campaign.

This should force an entire re-write of the Windows OS
